December Beekeeping Update!

December Beekeeping Update!

Hey friends,

It’s been a whirlwind couple of months here at BeeFit Beekeeping, and I wanted to take a moment to share what’s been going on behind the scenes.

One of the biggest updates? We shipped our bees out to California for almond pollination! It’s always a little nerve wracking sending our girls off, but also so exciting to see them heading toward such an important job. In just a few months, they’ll be out there helping pollinate one of the most vital crops in the country and knowing that our bees are part of that bigger picture never gets old. :)

Back home, it’s been all about prep and care. I’ve been walking the yards, checking hives, and making sure our bees are strong and healthy heading into winter. A big part of this season is planning for next year; ordering equipment, sourcing everything we’ll need, scheduling tasks, and making sure nothing sneaks up on us when spring rolls around. Winter can be tough on bees, and I take pride in knowing we’re giving them the best shot at making it through while setting ourselves up for a smooth, organized spring.

On top of all that, I’m so excited to share that I’ve officially launched my beekeeping app! This has been months in the making, and it’s designed to be like having a personal beekeeping mentor in your pocket. I’m personally using it to plan, track, and organize my hives, and it’s already making a huge difference in staying on top of everything. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned beekeeper, the app walks you through the steps to keep your bees healthy and thriving. I cannot WAIT to see what everyone thinks of it!!!

On a personal note, these months have reminded me why I started BeeFit Beekeeping in the first place. Every inspection, every swarm captured, every hive that makes it through winter, it’s all a small part of something bigger. Producing nucs and queens for 2026 has been incredibly rewarding, and it’s exciting to think about the new beekeepers who will be starting their journey with our bees!

Of course, the challenges of today’s environment are real. Local forage is decreasing, new pests and diseases are showing up, and pollinator habitats continue to shrink. But there’s some positive news on the horizon. Canada has agreed to a North American Bee Initiative, aiming to protect honey bees across the continent and, hopefully, keep threats like the Tropilaelaps mite from ever reaching us. There’s also a continued push to establish a standard identity of honey, which would help fight the flood of “funny honey” on grocery store shelves (products mixed with corn syrup, rice syrup, or other additives to increase volume and sales). Every little thing we do matters, not just for our bees, but for the health of all pollinators in our communities.

I also want to take a moment to say thank you truly, from the bottom of my heart! Every single person who has followed our journey, watched our videos, tried our bees, or supported us in any way means more to me than anything else. Your encouragement, messages, and engagement keep this passion alive and remind me why I do what I do every day. I’m so grateful to have such an amazing community alongside me on this beekeeping adventure.

So, as we wrap up the year, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the hard work, the lessons learned, and the small victories along the way. And I’m grateful to my team, our supporters (YOU!), and most importantly, to the bees themselves. Watching them thrive is what keeps me inspired to keep going, season after season.

Here’s to a strong finish to 2025 and an even busier and exciting 2026! We have some pretty exciting stuff coming in 2026 that I CANNOT wait to share with you!

With gratitude,

Emily
